Robert Metz: I was there once, when living in Edwardsville. Was a pretty active place at one time, especially when the IT had a switching yard there.

The east/west route through the junction was the Illinois Traction System. The two parallel routes were the L&M on the west side and NKP's Cloverleaf on the east side. The IT curved in from the south and the northwest sides.

The topo map doesn't look correct because there is no connection between the two IT segments. So I opened up my Richard Carpenter map book that I got for Xmas, and it shows a connector cutting diagonally across the Cloverleaf and L&M routes and then paralleling the L&M to the curve of its northern segment. I added the blue lines to try to capture this connection. The green circle is the approximate location of the tower.

The red rectangle highlights the tower. The blue rectangle highlights a part of the diagonal connector that is highly visible because they evidently put fresh ballast on that segment.

I was aware of the NKP's Cloverleaf in the eastern part of Illinois. I forgot where it was in the western part. I see that it made it all the way to East St. Louis.

LeClaire Tower in Edwardsville, Illinois. The Illinois Terminal crossed both the Chicago &Northwestern (CNW) and the Nickel Plate (NKP) behind the photographer. The NKP tracks are to the right, CNW to the left. Hard to see, the ITC curves off to the left. IT had a yard to the right of the photographer.
At one time the IT electrified line crossed all three a few hundred feet up the line. The last interurban crossed over in 1956.
Not sure when the tower was shuttered, probably sometime after the IT was acquired by NKP successor N&W.
I spent many hours hanging out in that tower as a youngster. Sadly, absolutely nothing remains.
