William Shapotkin posted the question: "Here is a question for you -- Did the Wabash once have its own line betw Forrest and Fairbury, IL or did it always operate over the TP&W betw the two towns? If the Wabash did once have its own line, when was it abandoned in favor of operating over the TP&W?"
Robert Fiedler: Prior to 1883 the Wabash had their own line between Strawn and Fairbury. In 1883 they abandoned that line and started using trackage rights between Forrest and Fairbury over the TP&W which was then controlled by the Wabash to get to the line to Streator. There were two stations on the abandoned portion, Norman and Murphy.

...these two blocks that are on the east side of the above extract. The canopy on the east side of the depot must have been removed by 1940.

The grain elevator in town is of note because they have conveyors across the mainline. Prairie Central has recently built a greenfield grain elevator with a loop track that can handle unit trains near Chenoa, IL. But it still operates this elevator.

I revisited these notes in 2024 because of the William's question and noticed that the fertilizer company seems to have gone out of business.
