Morton, IL: Nestle USA/Libby Pumpkin Canning

A remnant of the Santa Fe line between Chicagoland and Pekin still goes between Crandall Junction and Morton so that TP&W can serve this plant.

David Jordan posted two photos with the comment: "I recorded these scenes on Wednesday, August 17, 1994. Six RBL-type boxcars with ATSF and FGEX markings were left outside Nestle USA/Libby's Morton, Illinois cannery, which probably meant another six were spotted for loading inside. The date is prior to the start of the packing season, so these were among the first to arrive. One clue is that the GP20 assigned to switch the plant wasn't here yet. This was the era in which Nestle loaded some 400 carloads per season."
Joshua Sheehan: Odd the see the overhead door partially opened. Nestle was always concerned about rodents and didn’t like the door opened for more than a few minutes.
David Jordan: Car supply changed from ATSF/FGEX to CR, NS and UP family (eventually including SP) from 1996. I also remember a bunch of CSX boxcars in 2000 or 2001. Much of the business seemed to shift to TOFC in 1995. And there was that 1999 season when (presumably RailAmerica gaining control on September 3 caused some confusion) TP&W didn't provide enough boxcars and rail shipments of canned pumpkin moved via TOFC on IAIS.
TP&W gave canned pumpkin loads to NS at Farmdale and C&NW at Sommer and/or Watseka. According to CTC Board's Railroad News from January 1992, pumpkin traffic was being interchanged with Conrail at Logansport, so some of those FGEX (and maybe ATSF) were used for that route. I'd say some cars were interchanged with CSX at Watseka as well.

Both truck dumpers were occupied when the satellite passed over. And the parking lot was empty. A street view shows that the parking lot has a lot of trailers during the off season.
