Carlinville, IL: Lost/GM&O/Alton/C&A Depot

Historic Depot: (Satellite)
Amtrak Depot: (Satellite)

Some of the coal mines in the area were Standard, Carlinville & South and Shay/Monteray.

Terry Harris: There was a pay phone on the northwest corner of the building. I used it one time (long story why) to call the Bloomington dispatcher and tell him we'd stopped to check something we noticed running hot in Macoupin Bottoms.

The east west route was also the Chicago & Alton.

I first looked for a location near the crossing of the two C&A routes. It looks like the junction tower was in the southwest quadrant. The rectangular building on a connector in the southeast quadrant looked promising, but this street view shows that it was not a depot.

And then I noticed a building with two roof lines that was between some tracks at the west end of 1st Street. We can see there was a house track behind the depot in Andy's photo.
