Chattanooga, TN: ADM and Ardent Flour Mills

ADM: (Satellite)

It must be cheaper to ship wheat than flour because I don't think much wheat is grown in the Appalachian Mountains.

ADM Milling

They receive at least some of their wheat by rail instead of trucks.

And it looks like they ship some of their flour by rail. Also, the mill uses quite a bit of electricity.

NS Locomotives , Equipment and its Predecessors posted four photos with the comment: "NS SD40-3 # 6419 switching a flour mill in Chattanooga   Tn    April 2025"
Patrick Carroll: On the original main before it was realigned in the 50’s.
Jacob Woods: Patrick Carroll Some of the NS people I met called it the West Main or Old Main.

Southern used to have a yard south of the mill. Since Union Station was just a little to the west of that yard, I presume it supported the passenger trains. Now just enough of the passenger track is left to serve this mill.

Ardent Mills

I found this mill while looking for the location of the ADM mill in the above Facebook post.

It looks like the crane unloads wheat from barges into the hopper. They must receive all of their wheat from barges because the only hoppers I could find in a satellite image looked like they were used for shipping flour.
