GTW/MC Depot: (Satellite, judging from the 2919 topo map, it was south of Holden and near today's Baum Street.)
PM Depot: (Satellite, I dropped a pin on it in case it is torn down because it is in bad shape.)
The 2005 SPV Map labels both GTW and MC routes as Central Michigan Railway (CMGN). A contemporary USGS map labels the railroad as Mid-Michigan.

Charles Geletzke Jr. posted GTW-NYC-PC MX tower in Saginaw, Michigan in May 1976. On April 1, 1976, the GTW acquired all of the former NYC-PC trackage within this community. (C. H. Geletzke, Jr. photo) Charles Geletzke Jr. also posted Maxwell Crosby: I love how the trunk acquired all of the track just to immediately dump most of it. James Anders: Maxwell Crosby Acquired is probably not the best description. Given or forced to take is probably more accurate since this was all done through the PC Bankruptcy proceedings. Similar to the small pieces of PC GTW was given at Vicksburg and Charlotte to get rid of many redundant mainline miles RR's had to keep and maintain under the ICC hammer while still keep rail shippers from totally revolting. Saginaw/Bay City was to done this way to keep 2 RR's in the area for shippers. |
GTW/MC Depot
MC and GTW joined routes here to share a bridge and the shared route went through town up to Zilwaukee where they separated again.

But the track details near the bridge did not look right.

So I got an older map and learned that GTW used to have its own bridge, and it did that share a route with the MC through town. This map makes it obvious that the curved track in Charles' photo was the MC while the straight track behind the tower was GTW. Now days, the MC track is gone and the GTW track was moved to create a gentler curve to the bridge. Furthermore, Emerson Street has also been moved, so it is hard to locate the tower on today's satellite image. I'm going with it being a little south of where Emerson used to be and half-way between Franklin and Baum Streets.

When the GTW acquired all of the MC trackage on Apr 1, 1976, it also got the MC depot, which it did not need and tore down.

Jim Kelling posted Postcards of Potter Street station in Saginaw Michigan (built in 1881) Bob Jungmann: Is this building still there ?? It looks amazing !! Jim Kelling: Bob Jungmann yes but it’s in bad shape and fenced off (demolition by neglect). It will be seen next year on the Railroad Station Historical Society tour of depots in southern Michigan. |
