| William Brown posted From the "Historic Galena" Facebook page, in 1915 in Galena, Illinois, near the former Marine Hospital, this interlocking tower protected the CB&Q/IC Crossing on the east side of the river. Did it also control the lift bridge? Greg Bonnell: I was not aware that the CB&Q went through Galena at one time. Was this just a branch line? John Snapp:Greg Bonnell Yes, it was a 4 mile branch line from Galena Jct. to Galena. The tower was built in 1900. The CB&Q spur to Galena perhaps abandoned circa 1961. |

| Dennis DeBruler commented on William's post Since that is the Marine Hospital (https://maps.app.goo.gl/qiw6yJeWiyz6HeQi7) in the right background of the photo, I think the tower is along the IC track that goes along the front of William's photo. So the tower was in the southeast quadrant of the crossing. 1913 Galena Quad @ 62,500 |
