This 60-inch wheel lathe was built in the late 1800s and is still in use today on diesel traction wheels toady. It's found in the C&G RR shops in Columbus MS along with other machinery of the same era. The shop is attached to the 1887 roundhouse.

An "old fashioned" shop set up in Sedalia MO, 1898. An obsolete enclosed roundhouse is being used as a freight car building shop, siting next to a small brick machine shop, wooden carpenter shop, and new roundhouse. Several other support buildings were spread out along Howard Street.

In 1905 the Missouri Pacific opened a new set of shops in East Sedalia MO to take the place of the old shops. The workers must have been impressed moving from the obsolete shops to these new ones, which had ten times the capacity.

Cable, IL: Lost/Rock Island Southern Depot

Miles W. Rich: That is the Rock Island & Mercer County Depot. The Southern least the line from Milan to Southern Junction. The Cables never had an interest in the RIS. When the Cable mines ran out of coal, the RI&MC tracks to there were abandoned. The Cables owned the Rock Island & Peoria and the RI&MC both which were merged into the RI Lines in the early 20th Century. One of the Cables became President of the Rock Island Lines, the CRI&P.

Jack Norris posted ten photos with the comment: "The Erie Railroad station in Ridgewood, NJ was constructed in 1918. The architecture of this particular station looks like it should be in the Southwest. Ridgewood was and still is a very affluent community in the state of NJ. The station was the suburban stop for all Erie long distance trains. Although the overall appearance of the station has been ruined by the addition of high level platforms, the building itself is still a glorious old structure. The waiting room has been modernized but still has an open ticket office and a great coffee stand in the former baggage room. The express wing now houses a community food bank. The westbound waiting room is now a commercial space. My photos 10-/23/2024"

Acton, IN: Lost/Big Four Depot

On this day in 1852, Acton, Indiana, was platted in Marion County. Initially called Farmersville, it quickly changed names to Acton as there was already a town by that name. It was a stop on the Indianapolis and Cincinnati Railroad, which was later absorbed by other companies and became part of what was known as the Big Four Railroad. Pictured here is the Railroad Station in Acton ca. 1910.

I've wondered where the CNH tractors were made. It looks like the smaller tractors are made in this plant.

Looking at a satellite map, I could not find any rail service for this plant. Nor could I find a RORO dock on the River Thames that is a little south of this town.
