By today's standards, the CSX/C&O railyard still has a lot of tracks.

Shelton Tackett Here is an old photo of Chessie System Engine passing under the old coaling tower that was in Fulton Yard Richmond Va. (not sure it still exists.) I hired on the Chessie System (old B&O) in 1981 in Garrett In. Chessie was conglomeration of the C&O, B&O, Western Maryland and several other smaller railroads and was in operation from1972-1986. The logo was from the C&O promotional Chessie Kitten and the O in C&O. Chessie System merged with the Seaboard Coastline in 1986 becomming CSX. C=Chessie S=Seaboard X represents merger or together. Most probably already knew this but I thought I would share it for those that don't. Dieter Zakas: That logo was called the "Ches-C."Tommy Wright: Hired out on the C&O there at Fulton as a laborer on a tie gang. Worked as a foreman and other assorted duties. I believe it was taken down some time in the early 2000s. Chad Lawson: We get our fertilizer/ grain cars from CSX out of Garrett Indiana from the CSX “local”. They bring them to our co-op in union mills and Malden Indiana via the CKIN short railroad. [No wonder he put "local" in quotes, that train has to go all the way to Wellsboro, IN, for the interchange.] Dennis DeBruler shared |
