Hunnewell, KY: 1845,1870-1889 Blast Furnace

(Satellite, according to the topo map, it was west of OH-207, but I could not find it.)

Abandoned posted three photos with the comment:
Hunnewell Furnace in Greenup County, Kentucky was constructed in 1845 to produce pig iron that was shipped to awaiting boats along the Ohio River in Greenupsburg. The furnace was rebuilt in 1870 and operated until 1885/1889.
Charcoal timber, iron ore, and limestone supplied material for numerous furnaces that produced pig iron, munitions, and tools in the Between Rivers, Green River, Hanging Rock, Red River, and Rolling Fork Iron Regions in Kentucky, Ohio, and West Virginia. Only a handful remain intact while most others are in various states of ruin.
