Raymond Storey posted THE MC ANN ARBOR MI Gregory Taylor Mills: One of the most beautiful train stations ever built. This photo was taken ca 1950, the station still operates as a fine dining establishment known as The Gandy Dancer. Jim Kelling shared Ann Arbor, Michigan (Michigan Central station) |
John Vavrek posted Ann Arbor train depot now the Gandy Dancer Restaurant. The Gandy tool Company out of Chicago made the tools for the railroad track layers who placed the heavy rails in a dancing motion to keep them straight. Jim Kelling shared Michigan Central station in Ann Arbor Ron Reiring: They totally ruined the trackside of this beautiful depot. [But, hopefully, it pays for the maintenance of the building.] |

Dave Kuntz posted four photos with the comment: "I've tracked abandoned railroads from California to Maine, but one of the most unusual displays I've found was right under my nose in my hometown of Ann Arbor, MI. Spanning a fairly nondescript office building parking lot, there's a bridge with rails still on it - and a hopper car on top of that! Clearly the bridge, which was probably used to dump coal below itself, was intentionally preserved, and this may be the most interesting commercial parking lot in the world."
Daniel LaVeck: I believe they welded the car to the track to prevent it from blowing off in extreme weather
