C.B. & Q. Railroad Depot in Lewistown, Illinois. 1909 |
This satellite image shows that the concrete remnants in the left foreground in the above view were probably the foundations for steel bins.

CB&Q depot & an elevator that was once rail served in Lewistown, Illinois. 10-8-22
CB&Q last passenger train was 1961. They probably used it after for freight trains until it merged to become Burlington Northern in 1970.
Elevator I need to dig up information on that. It's at least 100 years old.
The current tracks are inactive now and getting rusty. One rail was from 1922.
Fred Butt: Simpson and Powellson lumber yard used the depot in the late 60’s early 70’s for storage
At that time the elevator was as I remember mostly a feed mill feed store for Fulton FS
North of the old football field and bus barn was a stockyards off the rail
I remember helping in the late 60’s unloading South Dakota feeder calf’s onto Louis Bush from Havana semi’s to haul them to feedlot.

The CB&Q used to have two routes through this town. 1925 Havana Quad @ 62,500 But a 1948 topo shows that the route that left town going straight south and then went to West Havana was already gone. |
