Marty Bernard posted Northern Pacific Depot at Staples, MN in October 1976, unknown photographer slide donated to the Iowa Chapter NRHS. Google shows the building is still there in good shape. Harold J. Krewer: Still a stop for Amtrak. |
Gordon Smith posted two photos with the comment: "On our day out on the Staples Sub, we made it up to the Subs namesake station. We first shot a BNSF Eastbound Manifest with engines EMD SD60 9065-9090; and then Westbound S-CHCSEA with engines ATSF C44-9W 679-BNSF C44-9W 4575-1002 at Staples, MN May 13, 2002."

You can see two different generations of roundhouse stall remnants.
A topo map shows that the arc of the roundhouse by Wisconsin Ave. had already been removed by 1966.

1966 Staples Quad @ 24,000 |
I first checked out a 1962 photo because it was of higher resolution. That is when I realized there was a smaller roundhouse west of the main one.
So I looked at the oldest photo that was available to see the main roundhouse. But I still could not find the turntable for the smaller roundhouse.
