There are many roundhouse images "hidden" in photographs that aren't labeled as such. I was browsing all photos of Duluth hoping to get a glimpse of the original roundhouse built in 1870 and came across this photo from the 1890s. It is part of a panorama of Rice's Point and surrounding waterfront. The photo did not have any railroad related tags, so searching by "roundhouse," "engine house," etc. would have missed it completely. In the right background is the original roundhouse built by the Lake Superior and Mississippi, later taken over by the Northern Pacific. It lasted until the early 1900s when the NP built a much larger roundhouse next door. (Minnesota State Library)
