Marc Mcclure posted five photos of the eastern elevator in Stromsburg with the comment:
Stromsburg Nebraska. This is the original concrete elevator in town. Built by Tillotson Construction in the summer/fall of 1954. One of the larger country elevators built by Tillotson at that time. Still in use.
That would make the western elevator the second elevator built in the town. It is interesting that the second one was initially smaller but now appears to be larger and is still rail served (note the yellow "fall protector" in the street view below).

From this street view, we can see the the 1954 (eastern) elevator is not rail served because it does not have a fall protector. Some of the street views (example1, example2) show a cut of covered hoppers to be loaded by the western elevator. It appears that the western elevator now specializes in shipping grain whereas the eastern elevator now specializes in feed mill operations and fertilizer services.
In 1928, the railroad that we see today used to be a branch of the Union Pacific. I assume the railroad is now a shortline because a Class I railroad would not want to serve such a small rail yard. There used to be a branch of the CB&Q that came up from York.
