GE already gave up on Illinois in 2015 in Dekalb where they used to build electric motors for appliances.
They are now (August 11, 2017) closing a 71-year-old factory in Mattoon that had a peak employment of 1,800. It is now down to 133. The article does not indicate if the factory was a union shop. [sj-r]
In 2013 they added 30 jobs when they employed 205 to increase the output of energy-efficient soft white bulbs.
Besides assembling energy-efficient soft white bulbs, the Mattoon plant also assembles:
— Automotive lighting.
— Halogen parabolic aluminized reflector bulbs used in recessed and track lighting.
— Multifaceted reflector bulbs used in residential and retail lighting.
— HIR lighting, which uses an infrared reflective coating.
