Royal, IA: Aug 25, 2020, Grain Dust Explosion in Ag Partner's Grain Elevator

(Satellite, at least some of the photos are not of this elevator)

According to my 2005 SPV Map, UP operated the Rock Island route from here to Laurens, IA, where it joined a UP/C&NW route. But satellite images show that UP tore up this RI remnant.

As if the Aug 10 derecho didn't damage enough grain storage facilities in Iowa, this explosion closes another elevator. There were no injuries, but as of Aug 26 a handful of homes near the elevator remained under an evacuation order while engineers assessed the stability of the structure.

The Pit looks like it’s black. Bet it started down low.

Dust explosions are more command than I realized.

(One of the news articles linked to another article about how a 65-year old man died "after he was pulled into the corn when the crust broke." That would be another example of why someone should wear a harness attached to a rope if they have to go into a bin.)
