Jim Arvites posted View of the old Illinois Central Railroad passenger depot at Onarga, Illinois in 1915. (Onarga Historical Society and Museum) John Yoder: What is the tower on the left? |
Dennis DeBruler replied to John's question A grain elevator. We are looking North. The depot was in the middle of the block between Lincoln and Seminary. There still is a grain elevator on the west side of the RoW in the next block north. https://clearinghouse.isgs.illinois.edu/webdocs/ilhap/county/data/iroquois/flight10/00ai1a083.jpg John Yoder: Dennis DeBruler to the left of the elevator, Dennis DeBruler: John Yoder Given the date of 1915, probably a watchman tower for controlling crossing gates on Lincoln. He might also control the Seminary crossing. https://industrialscenery.blogspot.com/2018/05/watchman-tower-to-control-crossing-gates.html |

Onarga Historical Society and Museum posted A wonderful real photo postcard of our IL Central RR Depot taken July 11th, 1911. Did you catch a train from our depot? [To summarize the comments, in the 50s it was a flag stop. In the 60s they had to go to Gilman. Later, they had to go to Kankakee.] Brian Bottorff shared 2 miles south of Gilman Illinois crossroads TP&W/ ICG. |
