Hanna, AB: Sheerness 0.8gw Power Station and 1984 Coal Mine

Power Station: (Satellite)
Dragline: (Satellite) I could not find the second one. According to Google Earth, this image is May 2015. So both draglines should still be operational.

This is another mine-mouth power station that burned sub-bituminous coal. The plant was converted to natural gas so the mine was closed. "Coal was uncovered using the two draglines (1 – BE 1300; 1 – Page 736)." It produced 3.4 million tonnes each year to feed the power plant. [gem_mine]

The details concerning the units in gem_power don't make sense, so I'll use just the 0.8gw total capacity figure.

The power plant is on the left and the mine on the right with a conveyor under the road.

Judging by the paint job, this must be the B-E 1300.

The mine is proud of its safety and reclamation efforts.

Stork Inc. posted two photos with the comment: "We are extremely excited to announce the sale of this Page 736 #410. Stork, Inc. was fortunate enough to get to represent the buyers and the sellers. Almost two years ago our company was given the task to find one of our customers a different machine for their fleet. After looking at many options we found this machine coming available with another one of our customers.  Our crew worked very hard to make the sale a smooth transaction for both the buyers and sellers. We also helped arrange the bids for the moving of the machine. All of these companies have been absolutely awesome to work with.  We are happy to see this beautiful machine move from Canada to the state of Illinois.  We hope to be able to continue to work with these companies in their future endeavors. A special Thanks goes out to Aaron Aberle, Cody Lee, Christopher Sinn, and all the purchasing company's personnel that we worked with.  Thank you to all!"
Crhistopher Sinn shared with the comment: "Congratulations Stork Inc on the sale of the Prairie Rose page 736. Very happy to see it coming to Illinois."
Bob Williams: It’s...headed to [a limestone quarry in] Athens. I finally took the time to pull up the report on it. It’s going there, and they’re going to try to access more reserves for it. If they’re unable to, it will be considered to be moved to another quarry in IL. The 7400 at Athens will be parted out for the Nokomis/Fairmount machines and scrapped.
They actually were going try using dozers for stripping but it didn’t work out. This is about as modern of a machine (1984) as you’re going to find in the yard range they were looking for.
