(
Satellite, once again I use a road map because it is easier to see the
tattoos (long lakes) of strip mining.)

1 Photo posted by Dianna Hart on the Harrison County Ohio History & Genealogy Group Clearfield Bituminous Coal Co., 110 ft. Highwall. Photo stamped Jul 16 1945. Credit to Carl Mansfield, Bloomingdale, Ohio. (I believe this location was near Apex Road, in Harrison County.) |

2 Photo posted James Stine. This photo, courtesy of Jerry P., shows an example of the Marion 5560 with the counter-balance hoist. This machine had a 16 yd. dipper on a 96 foot boom when it began its career in early 1935. The machine was purchased new by Industrial Coal & Iron Company and used at their Apex Mine. It is estimated that this mine was located east of Jewett, OH, though I cannot be certain at his time. Note the fella standing on the boom point. We enlarged this photo and it looks like there maybe a second fella standing on the boom point also. |

There appears to be an active mine in the area.
And some bad land reclamation?
