On Tuesday, April 26, 2022, Reading and Northern Railroad - Passenger's newly restored former Reading Railroad T-1 2102 (4-8-4) operated a test train using 50 coal hoppers from North Reading, PA to Jim Thorpe, PA. After backing into the station in Jim Thorpe, Pennsylvania, the locomotive was on display for the public to view before returning to the yard in Tamaqua, Pennsylvania that afternoon and is seen here at the beginning of its return trip. The locomotive operated on a number of "Iron Horse Rambles excursions" trips in 2022 and the railroad has already announced a schedule for 2023. |

Robert Wanner posted in Central Railroad of New Jersey Fan Page Central Railroad of New Jersey, Jim Thorpe (Mauch Chunk) Pa. in steam days 1940's). About the best Kodachrome I've ever seen of the CRRofNJ installation at Chunk. Large Yard, shops and locomotive facility. All steam locomotive and loaded coal hopper cars. Lot to see. And looks like the auto bridge to the North side is brand new. Everything quite different in today's World. Photo by Arch Kantner in 1951. Robert Wanner also posted with the same comment. |
Have those green locomotives moved recently? Or do they just park in the same spot?

Bruce Shanfelt posted THEN & NOW...The Jersey Central Station at Mauch Chunk/Jim Thorpe, PA...Constructed in 1887, the Jersey Central is an iconic landmark in downtown Jim Thorpe. Carbon County was able to rescue and preserve this historic building before it met the fate of so many other passenger stations in northeast PA. The freight station was torn down in the mid 1960's. Today, the station welcomes visitors, contains a bank, and the end of the canopy hosts the Lehigh Gorge Scenic Railway where tens of thousands of people enjoy trips by rail both to and from the town. Bruce Shanfelt posted In this scene, looking from the Mansion House Hill, we see downtown Mauch Chunk as it looked in 1940. The ruins of the canal and dam are in the foreground and three mansions overlook the scene in the back. The freight station of the Jersey Central is to the right of the passenger station and the three tracks on the right of the photo belong to the Lehigh Valley Railroad.
