On the left is Union Station and on the right is King Street Station. Amtrak now uses King Street Station. If you know which historical railroad used which station, please leave a comment. (Update: Dennis Hogan explained: "Union Station: Union Pacific and Milwaukee Road / King St. Station: Great Northern and Northern Pacific.")
Note that Seattle has both 1950s-style trolleys and streetcars. Is this the only town in the USA with trolleys?

On a topo map, there were a lot of tracks going south from the stations, but nothing going north. The tracks going south are labeled Union Pacific, Milwaukee and Northern Pacific. But I know that Great Northern and Northern Pacific approached Seattle from the north because I have notes on their bridges across the Lake Washington Ship Canal.

Washington is home to Amtrak’s Seattle Maintenance Facility. This complex maintains and services the remaining 2 Talgo train sets, 15 locomotives and 23 passenger cars some of which are Sound Transit fleet and some Amtrak Cascades. The facility also performs turnaround servicing for two daily National Network trains.
2012 marked the completion of the first two of the four phase project. Last winter the materials storage and office building opened. Phase two is the maintenance building for the Talgo trainsets used on the Cascades and the Sounder cars Amtrak maintains under contract with Sound Transit.
The maintenance building contains two tracks long enough to accommodate a full Talgo trainset. Below grade inspection pits run nearly the length of each track. The building also contains facilities and office space for the people that work in the facility. The first two phases cost $37 million.
In 2017, Amtrak awarded a $34-million contract to construct the locomotive service and repair facility in Seattle. This facility was completed in 2019. These buildings house a locomotive servicing facility and a maintenance facility for the Superliner equipment used on the Empire Builder and Coast Starlight.
