Rock Valley

2 of 7 photos taken by Sioux County Sheriff in cbs2iowa gallery. Some towns are breaking the flood records that were set in 1993. By several feet. In a town of 4,400 people, 2000 properties have been impacted and hundreds of homes were destroyed. State leaders are still trying to determine the impact for farmers in the area.

North Sioux

In addition to the collapsed railroad bridge and the flooding of the roundhouse museum, McCook Lake had some houses washed away and roads washed out by the rushing flood waters. Most home disasters at least leave the foundation and land. Some of these homes lost their land. And this would be why there is so much debris in flood waters.

South of Ocheyedan

According to Google Maps, at least some of this area is a wildlife area. So this is a planned floodplain doing its job.

Took some drone pictures of the flooding south of town this afternoon. First two pictures are the Ocheyedan River at A22, looking southeast and northwest. Third picture is Tyler avenue, looking south, at the Thomas pits. The last one is the Ocheyedan pits, looking West, and a little north.

I noticed that the town has a feed mill. I want to save this photo of a feed truck in action because I normally see them with their auger stored for transport.

[The little tiny hole under the bridge wasn't big enough, so the water made more holes. I hope the UP dispatcher had been notified so that he wouldn't cause a derailment like BNSF did.]

Adrian

It is common to use a floodplain for a campground. I'm sure the theory is that it can be evacuated before it is inundated. So much for theory.

Pictures from the Homeland  of what " to much " rain looks like.
We here in Western Minnesota and NE South Dakota have little to complain about.
I've requested  requested and am requesting more pictures  from the Ocheyedan and May City Iowa area.
