This is not how I want to learn about depots. This is the aftermath of Hurricane Helene.

This is Spruce Pine, NC about 45 minutes from our house. It is one of my favorite areas to railfan. That building with the water nearly up to the roof is the old Clinchfield Railroad depot. It is going to be awhile before CSX can get the line open again. Lots of businesses down there with lots of water.
Jennie, Amelia, and I are safe and are in Wilmore, KY where Amelia is in college. It's Parents Weekend and we came up to see Amelia perform in a couple of concerts. Originally we planned to drive home tomorrow.
HOWEVER, all of the roads we normally use within the last 30-50 miles of home have experienced washouts. We're already planning to spend an extra night here and maybe more. No one in Madison County, NC has electricity and it will be days......maybe weeks...... before anyone does. Cell Phone and internet are spotty too.
We'll see how things look tomorrow.

The bump in front of the depot in the above photo is the top of this caboose.

This topo map made it easy to find the depot.
