Nick Menke posted three pictures of the CB&Q roundhouse with the comment:
Whenever I see what a wedding can cost, I'm always glad to see someone has converted the big interior of an industrial building or depot into an event space.
Update: Preserving the backshops as well as the roundhouse makes a spectacular event space.

According to comments on the above post and share, the building has been used by the MoW department and they would rather use the land to expand their parking for MoW trucks.

Thanks for the add guys. Here's the old Q roundhouse in Beardstown IL. Someone has restored it and made it a wedding reception/banquet hall. You can still smell the grease inside.(Satellite, note that Google Map has 20 photos, many of them are interior shots.)

I have no idea the history behind this discovered on Google earth and took a trip. It's most likely private property so didnt approach in case. It didnt look like anyone but one truck was there so no idea on the status of this place.

Ken Morrison It's almost certainly Beardstown, Il.-at the confluence of the Illinois and Sangamon Rivers; CB&Q bridge, CB&Q/B&O tracks/facilities. Steve Drassler Looks like there were two locomotive servicing facilities, a full roundhouse and a smaller roundhouse next to it. Quite a shop complex, too. Didn't realize all that existed there years ago. Rick F Up till the 1930s, Beardstown was a major yard and service point on the CB&Q till they moved it to Galesburg. I read at one time 1000 people worked for the railroad here. This is also the western most terminal for the B&O located on the right side of the yard complex just above the roundhouses in the picture. Jim Duncan The Illinois River's lookin' angry! Ken Morrison Jim Duncan from Havana down to Beardstown, the terrain is low and slow, and you've got the Sangamon very tentatively entering, in the picture and for several miles north... |
