August 8, 2014 – The CSX crossover at the Norfolk Southern’s track sits briefly idle as things were quiet in this early morning shot looking east toward Blair Yard in Fostoria, Ohio.

Normally when I have to access multiple quadrangles to cover an area of interest, I choose the same years. But in this case the left (yellow background) quadrangle is 1960 and the right (green background) is 1972. I did that to show the "extension" was already built by 1960 and the Mixing and Intermodal Yards had not yet been built in 1972. Since a 1990 topo also did not have the new facilities, I fired up Google Earth. It shows that it was built between May 1995 and Sep 2004.

The intermodal part is obvious from a satellite image. A Trainorders article mentioned an automobile mixing center about one mile east. Looking closer at a satellite image, I could see that the northern tracks in the new yard contained only autorack cars.

An intermodal and a smaller local are both rollin west out of the yard. I love these high and wide views because it really lets you look at all the details. Blair yard sits on the east side of the Fostoria "iron triangle" and is a decent size.
