Gavilon Fertilizer: (Satellite)
Nutrien Distribution: (Satellite)
This is the post that motivated the research.
HalstEd Pazdzior posted MVPX 1460 (SW14) is a hard unit to catch. It sits behind locked gates at The Nutrien phosphate facility in Marseilles. It made a rare appearance on to the New Rock to grab some cars 3/26/21 |
I notice that in this photo they have a green locomotive instead of a blue one.

In a satellite image, they have a bunch of tank cars as well as hoppers. This is one of four regional phosphate "upgrading plants." [nutrien-phosphate] It appears that they receive the rock by barge and ship liquid and solid products by rail. The phosphate is mined in Florida and Nebraska. The Nebraska quarry must be underground. The Florida quarry is a surface operation. I know that Florida is one of the last places that draglines are still used in the USA because the water table is so high.

While I was looking at the satellite image I saw a label for Gavilon Fertilizer just to the West. The satellite image is just land from which all of the buildings have been removed. This photo confirms that this fertilizer facility is relatively new. This appears to be a barge to truck facility.

And then further West is the Nutrien Marseilles Distribution Terminal. This appears to be a barge to tank truck facility. That is, they handle a liquid product. The Google Maps information points to a different web site than the Nutrien Phosphate information. "Nutrien is the world's largest provider of crop inputs and services, playing a critical role in helping growers increase food production in a sustainable manner." Those crop inputs are over 25 million tonnes of potash, nitrogen and phosphate products. [Nutrien-what-we-do]
