These are notes I am writing to help me learn our industrial history. They are my best understanding, but that does not mean they are a correct understanding.

Charles City, IA: 1912 Milwaukee Depot, Museum and Old Grain Elevator
It was moved just a couple of weeks ago. I've marked its original location and Google Maps has marked its new position with the American Passenger Train History Museum icon.
It is being moved to the American Passenger Train History Museum that is south of the former IC tracks. (The 2005 SPV Map shows the Milwaukee is now owned by ICE and the IC is owned by CN. But a USGS map shows that both routes are now owned by CP Rail Systems.)

At long last the former Milwaukee Road passenger and freight depot in Charles City, Iowa is being moved to it's new foundation and permanent location at North Grand and 11th Avenues. The venerable structure was located at North Main St. and North Grand Ave for about 100 years. The proposed move will take place over the course of seven days. Vehicular and train traffic and strategic infrastructure considerations all contribute to the time line. Besides the depot on wheels, there's a shot of the new foundation and I-beams that await the depot at its end of the line. The depot had been scheduled for demolition by the Canadian Pacific Railway, but it was sold to and saved by the "American Passenger Train History Museum" society and by community funds raising efforts, and intense planning. Thein Moving Company are tasked with the complex and delicate physical move. When up and running, the restored depot and the several passenger cars associated with the group will be a very nice resource for the community to celebrate a wonderful aspect of it's history for generations to come. This is one of three photos provided by Bradley Tierney of the Western Railroad's depot before it was remodeled
Canadian Pacific was planning to destroy the depot if someone did not commit to move it by Mar 31, 2021. [brochure] Moving it was Phase I. Now it needs to be restored. "The building is in structurally good condition with a new roof. It will need modern restrooms, new Electrical, new Plumbing, new Air Conditioning and new Heating systems. [apthm]
Their new elevator doesn't appear to be rail served for grain transport. The two tank trailers parked by the tracks makes me wonder if fertilizer is delivered in carload lots because the siding still has rails in Grand Avenue.
I wonder if the old grain elevator has been converted to a feed mill. It would have the many small bins that are needed to hold feed supplements. And it has been well preserved.
