Monroe, MI: Gerdau Special Steel Monroe Plant

Little EAF action
Jeff Grzesek: Is this in Monroe Michigan?
Thomas George: Jeff Grzesek yes. The old furnace. Was replaced last summer.
[A lot of comments talk about the cleanliness of this shop.
The crane is holding a charging bucket over the furnace. I can't figure out where the lid is.]

Fortunately, some comments on the above post taught me that this was the Gerdau Special Steel Monroe Plant. I learned about this plant a couple of weeks ago when I saw a post about Gerdau shipping 400 tons of sepcial bar quality (SBQ) to their Grinder Ball Mill in Duluth, MN. The grinder balls are used in the nearby iron ore belt to help process the ore.

A picture of that ladle car, on the left, leaving the Melt Shop for the last time. The tons of steel that has moved over its life.

Here's the new one in place soon after installation and ready for duty.

I don't know why this location does not appear on their map. Maybe the map shows just their sales offices.
