We are at the one-time Seneca, IL station on the ROCK (once a joint ROCK/K&S station). This facility had fallen into disrepair until a local historical society (the Seneca Historical Guild) took over ownership of the building some 15-20 years ago. The building was moved west approx one block and lovingly restored...and a darn good job at that!
Since my last visit (some two years ago), caboose #17042, which had previously been located at Oakton/Badger in Mt Prospect, IL, had been stored on-the-ground north of the depot. Well, it also has been restored and on display!
Photos 1 and 2 -- One-time Seneca, IL ROCK station (along with caboose #17042). Wm Shapotkin Photos dated April 30, 2023.
Photo 3 -- Caboose #17042, on display at Oakton/Badger in Mt Prospect. The shopping center for which it was the entrance to had long since been abandoned and the caboose itself was is poor shape. It was moved in 2020 to Seneca and hardly looks the same!
[I looked for the location of Oakton Junction, but I could not find it.]
Ryan Brutt: Wow! They worked fast on that Caboose! I saw it in 2021 and it was on the ground and in original Oakton Junction paint.
