Haslet, TX: BNSF Alliance Railyard and Intermodal Facility

(Satellite)

I wonder how many trucks a day this facility dumps onto Blue Mound Road and I-35W.

A pair of ITSX EMD's shove a cut of intermodal cars into a departure track at the intermodal facility that is part of BNSF's Alliance Yard complex in Haslet, Texas. This units are operated by In-Terminal Services, a switching contractor that provides switching for the automotive and intermodal yards here. A BNSF auto train waits on the adjacent track to depart south from the yard.

This is a recent greenfield railyard. The newest topo map I could find is 1982, and it still had not been built. So I fired up Google Earth. It didn't make sense. An image dated 1/1995 still has just the road shown on the topo map, but an image also dated 1/1995 shows the new facility. Did they build the whole thing in less than a month? (In contrast, it took almost a decade to build the current Blue Mound Road and extend the runway of the airport.)
