Holiday City, OH: 20/20 Custom Molded Plastics and Milacron Injection Molds

(Satellite)

The plastics industry has become huge, but it is generally not very photogenic. But it is important because it is one of the few industries left that still get carload rail service.

The 4:19 video below taught me that those are not screw rods. They are grooved rods that allow the "nut locks" to lock the mold into a position.

One of the largest injection molding machines ever built in North America — an 8,000-ton Milacron press that's 94 feet [30m] long with 38 miles of wiring — is now installed at 20/20 Custom Molded Plastics LLC in Holiday City, Ohio.

[Why would it have so much wiring? Does it have heat coils?]

Talk about a timely post, this diagram of their products was just an hour old when I accessed the Facebook group.

Have you heard about Milacron's massive molding machine yet?
The machine's 94-foot footprint allows it to provide an ample amount of a resource that's often sought after in the plastics processing space: daylight.
The greater the extended daylight a machine possesses, the larger the mold the machine can handle, and the larger plastic part it can produce.

Welcome to Plastics News this week [Sep 18, 2023]!
In preparation for this week's Injection Molding & Design Expo, Senior reporter Catherine Kavanaugh has a centerpiece story about one of the largest injection molding machines ever built in North America — an 8,000-ton Milacron press that's 94 feet long with 38 miles of wiring — is now installed at 20/20 Custom Molded Plastics LLC in Holiday City, Ohio.

I think this is their regular big mold injector.
4:19 video

This video taught me that the nut locks hold the mold in position after the hydraulic rams have moved the mold to the desired position. It is the nut locks that withstand the tons of pressure generated by the injector.

I have observed that if a factory has metal silos, it is probably either a bakery (flour) or a plastic injection mold plant (plastic pellets).

The railroad that serves it is the NS/Wabash.

The new mold should be able to produce products that are larger than these that they have already produced.

I'm guessing these are shelters that are used to house calfs.

This looks like another agriculture product. Specifically, the boxes that are used to deliver seed to farms.
Ondrej Gabor, Jul 2017

This is an example of the seed boxes now used by many farmers. They have switched from sacks of seed to machines like a fork lift or tele-handler and center-fill planters. Before spring planting, there would have been more boxes piled on top of these.

Did you think #Plant23 was over already? Nope! Still got winter wheat to seed!

I have no idea what a current product is. It looks like it is a part of something bigger.
