Richard Fiedler Comment CM&G depot Manhattan IL [This view is looking Northwest along the CM&G tracks. I don't know why we can't see the CM&G-served grain elevator shown in this an aerial photo. It would be to the right of the tower. Is it skunked by the depot?] Bill Molony posted In the foreground on the right is the Illinois, Iowa & Minnesota Railway Company depot at Manhattan, Illinois. In the background to the left is the interlocking tower protecting the crossing of the II&M with the Wabash Railroad. Circa 1905. In the background to the left can be seen the interlocking tower that controlled II&M's crossing of the Wabash Railroad. John Eagan Never saw that depot before, is it in the NE quadrant? The Blackhawk Railway Historical Society The Manhattan interlocking tower was on the east side of the diamonds, and this depot appears to be on the same side as the tower, so that would put it south and east of the tower. Kevin Piper posted This is the CM&G depot in Manhattan, Illinois. Standing in front is agent Archie L. West. A lifelong resident of Manhattan, Mr. West served the railroad there for over 50 years, and lived to be 102 years old. He drove a car into nearby New Lenox almost every day for lunch when he was in his 90s! Jeff Rich is this a Milwaukee Road standard Depot or a Gary Line original structure? Paul Krueger I am pretty sure it is a Gary depot. |
Richard Fiedler posted CM&G -Milwaukee depot Manhattan IL Bill Molony also posted The is the Illinois, Iowa & Minnesota Railway Company station in Manhattan, Illinois - circa 1906. This was a typical small town station, with the agent's office behind the bay window, the passenger waiting room to the left of the bay window, and the freight room to the right of the bay window. The taller man to the right wearing the vest is probably the station agent. Dennis DeBruler The II&M was the corporate predecessor of the Chicago, Milwaukee & Gary. The CM&G was later bought by the Milwaukee Road. https://industrialscenery.blogspot.com/.../illinois-iowa...
