Akron, OH: Erie Yard

Satellite
Fred Stuckmann posted two photos with the comment:
A March 1976 Gary Morris shot shows EL's McCoy St. yard looking RR east from Thornton St.. A 2009 shot that I took, looks RR west across the same land with Thornton St. bridge in the distance. All that was left was wildflowers on EL's grave. Today, the area in front of my camera includes a parking lot used by Akron's Metro employees and customers.

The two tracks remaining in the satellite image were B&O and Pennsy and are now CSX+Amtrak+AB (Akron Barberton Cluster, a local shortline). The Erie track was just to the west of these tracks through here.

Update: I removed "Depot" from the title and labels since this depot is in the wrong state! (Indiana instead of Ohio)

Here we see Erie Lackawanna 2559 leading a manifest flying past the depot at Akron, Indiana with only a few days left in March 1976.

Keith Corman Note the two oversized loads just behind the units. Erie, later EL, was the preferred route for such loads to and from the coast. Gone, but still in our hearts!
