Lima, OH: SJ Tower: CSX+WE/Erie and Aban/EL/Erie vs. IORY/DTI

The Erie route is depicted below as the blue-yellow-red line. The green line was Detroit, Toledo and Ironton route through Lima. It is now owned by the Indiana & Ohio Railway (IORY).

The reason for three different colors for the Erie route is that the red segment is abandoned, the yellow segment is CSX+WE/Erie where WE is the Wheeling & Lake Erie Railway, and the blue segment is RJCW/Erie where RJCW is R J Corman Railroad - Western Ohio Line. I left a gap between the blue and yellow lines because it is not clear how these railroads connect with the other segments meeting in that area. SJ Tower is where the yellow+red routes (Erie) crossed the green route (DT&I).

Daniel Phenicie Something wrong here. Is it by SJ already ?
Andrew Long Yes it's passed SJ Tower. Look above the 4th unit in the consist and you will see the tower thru the haze of diesel exhaust.
Rex Hauser Nice Track!
[After that last comment, I took another look at the track. It was a sarcastic comment. You can see a depression at many of the joints. This is why better rail fasteners were developed so that mainlines could be converted to CWR (Continuous Welded Rail).]

"Handing Them Up"
"Throwing back" nearly 46 years, to a beautiful June, 1973 afternoon, when the operator at "SJ" Tower in Lima OH handed up orders to the engineer of a southbound Detroit Toledo & Ironton manifest freight. "SJ" was situated on Lima's southeast side and protected the crossing of DT&I and the Erie Lackawanna main line. Today, DT&I successor Indiana & Ohio still remains here, but "SJ Tower and the once busy EL are long gone. June, 1973 photo by Mark Hinsdale
