(Update: Cloverleaf history)
DianeandSteve Grigg posted This neat vintage postcard has a nice view of the Clover Leaf shops at Delphos, Ohio. If only I could travel back in time...... |
Benjamin Setter posted I cut away the rest of the postcard for you. Jacob Hortenstine updated Jim Etchie I believe I read somewhere, that just before getting to the depot in Delphos Ohio, there was a very sharp curve that the big Berks could not make so they were not used on that stretch of Cloverleaf.... Scott Trostel You are correct, it was on the south side of the crossing with the PRR. About a mile south of where this post card image was taken. The local story was that Delphos was holding a celebration of some sort and the railroads (NKP, PRR and AC&Y) all had equipment on display. When the NKP brought the berk to town, they simply could not get it around the curve. It sat near Main Street, and was removed from town backwards. The passenger station was in that same troublesome curve. Arthur Shale It was an 18 degree curve, orginally part of a 3ft gauge wye. The curve was never eased when the line was standard gauged. |
Jacob Hortenstine posted a better version of the photo. |
