Carl Venzke posted "QN tower is at the crossing of the C&O and Monon north of LaCrosse, Indiana. The tower opened in 1903 and closed on Oct. 7, 1932. I assume this was due to the Depression. I don’t know what kind of crossing protection was used until 1948 when Wade Tower was built. Wade is a brick tower that is still standing, but unused. Photo is courtesy of M. D. McCarter Photographs" |

Ken Durkel posted Chesapeake & Indiana (IBCX) 6386 pulling loads from Malden, Indiana on March 07, 2023. Passing the shell of QN Cabin at Wade Junction in La Crosse, Indiana. The C&O structure, which guarded the C&O/Monon crossing, was built circa 1948 to replace a wooden structure, and was closed a mere 6 years or so later circa 1954 when CTC was installed on the C&O and the interlocking became automatic. The engine is directly over where the Monon Michigan City Branch crossed immediately west of the building. |

Locomotive Jordan posted May 25, 1963, we see the C&O's QN Tower also known as Wade Tower just west of La Crosse, IN. This is the crossing of the C&O in the foreground with the Monon Rwy. just west of the tower. We see cars on the interchange track northeast of the tower. Photo was originally taken by John Strombeck, it is out of my collection. Tim Shanahan shared Jim Kelling: It’s still standing today, but just an empty shell of steel and concrete; it would be costly to remove it. Richard Fiedler shared |

Rich Tubbs commented on Tim's share Found it by accident in Sept 1993. Everything except the toilet had been stripped out. |
