Pekin, IL: Pacific Ethanol/Corn Products

(3D Satellite)

Roger Kujawa posted two photos with the comment: "Corn Products company postcard Pekin Illinois."
David Jordan: I have a copy...looks like it is from the 1950s.
Jerry Heilman: My grandfather retired from there in 1944. Worked there is whole career, started there when it was the sugar house. I worked there in 2003 for three years when it was Pekin Energy after I left the BNSF after 43 years. One the older employees that worked in the Receiving department gave me a picture of my grandfather Otto( Pete) Heilman when he retired in 1944.

Bill Wheeler: Back when they made more than ethanol. My uncle worked there.

The plant has been totally converted from corn products (corn starch, corn oil and corn syrup) to various grades of alcohols. (A former Corn Products plant does still make corn products.) Pacific Ethanol has a website of pacificethanol.com, which is no surprise. But Illinois Corn Processing also has that web site. The following info at the web site explains why:
Pacific Ethanol Acquires Illinois Corn Processing
  • Diversifies fuel ethanol production with high-value beverage and industrial grade alcohol
  • Consolidates additional production in Pekin, Illinois with a combined 250 million gallons of production and overall annual capacity of 605 million gallons

And the plant is not only still rail served, but it is served by more than one railroad.
