Just because something looks like a grain elevator, that doesn't mean it is. But I labeled these notes as "grainOld" because it was probably originally built to store grain. Now it evidently has been repurposed to store a carbon product.

Kris Rumbut posted Carb-Rite in Schneider, IN today. Someone was there with their track-mobile today. I'm not sure how often they get served, but it seems very seldom. Any estimate on car loads per year? Always a cool little operation to see. There has been a fairy modern CRDX gondola sitting at the end of the line for 7ish years now too. Modern Thrall car so you'd think someone would be looking for it. Karl Zumwalt: I shoved the UP car in there on Thursday the switch for the Danville stub has been oos for months the gon was built in 2005 and has been in there since probably 2010 we called the number on the side of the gon and it is not a working number we service them weekly during there busy time of year. Maybe 30 car loads in and out a year ? The south non rusty car is ready to be pulled and will probably be pulled on Tuesday or Thursday these are the days we service carbrite and wheatfield grain John Eagan: The south wall of that company is built from the sides of UP and CSX hoppers. Tom Biscan: GOOD TO SEE THEY ARE STILL GET GETTING SERVICE. IT HAD BEEN SOMETIME SINCE THEY HAD. |
Kris commented on his post in response to a question about what they make here. |
I don't know how many of these buildings south of the concrete silos are part of Carb-Rite.

This industrial spur is the remnant of what some people call the Egyptian Line that went all the way south to Cairo, IL. The street views show that NS probably also uses this spur to store cars.
