The Big Four was originally the Evansville, Indianapolis & Terre Haute; a C&EI subsidiary. What Robert calls the Monon B&B was a branch that left the mainline at Bedford, went through Bloomfield and continued to Switz City where it met the Pennsy route between Indianapolis and Vincennes.

Elliston, on the west bank of the White River, had three railroad tracks crossing at the same spot: the Pennsylvania line was built on ground level going north and south; the Monon crossed on the ground level in east and west direction, and the Illinois Central was on elevated tracks. All were part freight and part passenger coaches. The first stage of building the three-way was completed in 1876, the second a few years later, and the third and final stage was finished in 1906
Elliston is located in Greene County Indiana. Between Bloomfield and Switz City.

There are still some ruins left of the pier for the Monon bridge over the White River.
