When built in 1911, the Pere Marquette roundhouse in Wyoming, Michigan, formed a full circle with 42 stalls, with only the entranceway to the turntable not covered. The C&O inherited it in 1947, and by the time I took this photo in July of 1978, nearly half the stalls had been removed, as by then they had other more modern diesel shops on the property. Just imagine standing right here in the heyday of steam, surrounded by the sounds and smells of a roundhouse full of steam locomotives, the very locomotives that left the grime and soot we see in this photo.
By the mid ’80s the entire roundhouse was gone, with only its outline remaining. In fact, you can still see the outline on Google Maps

Here is a scan of a photo I took at the Wyoming, MI diesel house. Not sure on the date. You never knew what parked there from day to day.
Timothy Yarnall Sr.: Huge operation at one time. Walked through power house after it was shut down waiting to be razed in 91, unbelievable how big and complex it was.

Wyoming Rail Yard    Near the end of that web page there are several aerial photos of the yard, all of which include the roundhouse.
