safe_image for Port of Brunswick welcomes Gold Star service from Mexico |
Dennis DeBruler commented on the above post Are Class I railroads really this bad? "The Gold Star service offering from Zim delivers more timely, efficient, and secure delivery of Roll-on/Roll-off cargo compared to shipping overland, port officials said." Judging by all the parking lots, this port already handles a lot of cars from other countries. https://maps.app.goo.gl/zWBoivMuzVgDCYvr5 |
I had noticed in Ted's photo that the conveyor belt that used to go from the dock to the grain elevator was missing. Sure enough, they removed the grain elevator and loop track to make more RoRo room.

They even tore down some concrete silos.

I checked out some topo maps to see if this area was served by Southern, ACL or SAL. It turns out that it was built after those railroad names disappeared.. Back in 1980 there wasn't much on this island. A USGS map indicates tht the railroad is Colonels Island. I presume that is a terminal railroad so that both CSX and NS can serve this railroad traffic.
