Andy Zukowski posted Missouri Pacific Railroad in Pinckneyville, Illinois. 1975 Jim French: That’s the MoP depot. The IC depot is 3/4 mile east of the diamond by the elevator in the distance. |

I noticed the grain elevator had a fall protector. And this image confirms the elevator is rail served with a small cut of hoppers. Once again, Canadian National does not insist that an elevator can handle a unit train of hoppers. I included the True Value store in the image because that too is becoming history. Downers Grove, IL, lost all three of its True Value stores after some "big box" retailers got built nearby. We now have to drive to
Western Springs when we want something carried by True Value.
Although this country elevator getting rail service might also be a statement about the clout of Consolidated Grain and Barge Co.
The "yellow critter" parked near the lower-left corner of this image explains how their local rail power gets around those cuts of hoppers with so few sidings. It has rubber and steel wheels.
