Rollie Puterbaugh posted Image taken over the Glenwood Bridge {lower right} in 1971. It shows Hazelwood, the coke and blast furnaces belonging to J&L Steel along Second Avenue. You can also see the Hot Metal Bridge that took the pig iron from Second Avenue across the Mon' River to the Southside Works. Copyright: Rollie Puterbaugh If anybody would be interested in seeing an expanded view of Hazelwood, let me know! Ron Koenig posted B&O Glenwood Yard about 1971. Jerry Swink: My Dad and uncle as B&O and later Chessie System then CSX freight conductors on line from Connellsville to New Castle quite often were in or through Glenwood Yard. They were gone for days on end jockeying between Glenwood to New Castle then to eventually back home to Connellsville. |

Mike Lusher posted Here is the Glenwood longitudinal shop in 1961. Timothy Yarnall Sr.: Mike, Glennwood shop was dimensionally identical to Cumberland shop. We took down traveling wall cranes, a trolley and hooks from 100 ton main bay crane, and entire 15 ton crane from their South Bay, brought to Cumberland, refurbished and put in place to live another day. Equipment is still there except the 100 ton cranes (Morgan Cranes). They’ve been renewed with AC 125 ton cranes in main bay! [A couple of comments asked for confirmation that this was in the Hazelwood Shops, but there were no answers.] Tim Starr shared B&O Glenwood Shop, outside Pittsburgh. Nice diesel era picture. [Fortunately, Tim provided confirmation.] |

B&O Tower
To find a railroad tower that is still standing is rare.

Not that long ago, the tower didn't have any graffiti.

t appears to be a former-B&O tower because the upstream railroad bridge is a former-B&O bridge.

Update: Darren's post confirms that it is a B&O tower.

Vinnie Opdyke: My late grandfather operated a steam crane at the Glenwood Yards. Sadly, he passed in 1961, five years before I was born.
