Santa Fe Needles (CA) Depot Before The Fire A post by Don Palmer on the Facebook Memories of Needles Past And Present group. Description: Needles first Train Station built 1883. burned down 1906. El Garces replaced this station and was built 1908. My Notes: Originally built by the Southern Pacific. Santa Fe added a Harvey House. Bob Chaparro Hemet, CA |
As viewed from Historic Route 66. According to a Google Maps label, Amtrak still uses this building as their depot.
I read that this was the last cantilevered signal between a couple of towns. But I can't find where I read that so now I don't know which two towns.
Route 66 used to use 1st Street on the east side and Front Street on the west side.

I saw several photos of murals on buildings, so I used street view to cruise down Historic Route 66. But this is the only one I found. (

I found this static display while "cruising" around town. (

So here are the photos I found.
Roundhouse
Because of the topo map, I looked for the roundhouse. Fortunately, it is hard to remove the stall pits so some remnants are left.
They now have a wye to turn locomotives since they removed the turntable.
