Then and Now!
The Rock Island Depot looks very different today than it did over a hundred years ago! This is one of the earliest photos of the depot we have been able to find!
Stop by the RailsWest History Museum to learn more about the history of the Rock Island Depot and train passenger travel in Council Bluffs!

John Harker
posted four images with the comment: "An east bound Rock Island freight with TOFC and auto racks was just passing the freight house and depot at Council Bluffs, Iowa in late 1965 or early 1966. A crew change was just ahead at Bluffs Yard. The three U25Bs pulling this train represent the three orders delivered to the Rock Island. Note the subtle paint scheme differences, particularly the fuel tanks. A RI time table, an Iowa Geographic Map Server image and a USGS topo map are included for reference. The first two images are from their web site:
The third image is from Google Maps
The fourth image is a 3D Satellite excerpt showing the RI caboose in the lower-right corner and the CB&Q caboose in the upper-left corner. Neither has yet to be restored. This image is older than 2016 because the chain link fence has yet to be installed.
