Cedarville, MI: Port Dolostone Quarries and Dock

(Satellite)

These dolostone quarries have low transportation costs. It appears that the one just north of MI-134 uses a couple of conveyor belts to feed the dock. And the one a couple miles further north uses a dedicated railroad.

These quarries produce 3-4 million net tons of dolostone and limestone per year. [msu]

Peggy Captain posted several photos taken from the self-unloading boom of a ship. When they are loading a ship, they raise the boom and turn it to the side out of the way.

The name of the dedicated railroad seems to be Michigan Limestone.
