This yard is worth noting because it still has its tracks.

Unlike most railroad yards, this yard was not along their mainline. It is effectively a stub yard for local and interchange traffic. In the upper-left corner of this topo excerpt is where the mainline forks off and heads south over the C&NW yard lead, the BNSF/CB&Q, the Aban/C&NW/Menneapolis & St. Louis and the Kickapoo Creek.

This map shows that the "fork" between the mainline and the yard lead was called, appropriately enough, "Peoria Junction."
