Was this one of the ferries that ran this route?

I don't know why, but when I first saw Jason's photo, I thought it was a ferry. But it soon became obvious that it was way too big to be a ferry. And then I saw the self-unloading boom, which confirmed that the boat was a freighter.

But the town does have a ferry service. The ferry is 95'x36', and it was built in 1987. A trip takes 45 minutes. The ferry service was started in 1932. [PlauntTransportation-faqs]

I was aware of Mackinac Island. I was not aware that there is a much larger island, Bois Blanc, southeast of the Mackinac Island. The ferry runs to this island.

According to a USGS map...

...this is the island's dock for the ferry.
