Before any of you comment, yes big Muskie was bigger, but that machine is no more! Weighing in at approximately 7500 tons and swinging a bucket with a capacity of 160 cubic yards the size of this machine is best compared to a large building. It’s hard to think that I’ll never see a bigger dragline than this! I just can’t see anyone having a need for a bigger machine these days given the market’s volatility. What do foresee is manufacturers building small numbers of large crawler draglines to replace aging small walkers and large crawlers in the aggregate sector. These large walking draglines can be rebuilt indefinitely and that upfront cost of a new machine isn’t economical compared to a rebuild."
